Engine and Performance

All Crown models are equipped with a hybrid powertrain, with the top-level Platinum trim getting Toyota’s new Hybrid Max powertrain. It pairs a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder with electric motors for a combined 340 horsepower with 400 lb.-ft of torque. The dynamic placement of the electric motors between the engine and transmission helps transform the power smoothly. This brings the full-size sedan to 60 in mere 5.7 seconds, much quicker than the Avalon it replaces. Meanwhile, the base engine gets a 2.5-liter four-cylinder hybrid that delivers 236 horsepower. Moreover, the Toyota Crown’s excellent combination of power and efficiency raises the bar for its class with an EPA-estimated up to 41 mpg combined and 236 combined net hp.

Electronic On-Demand AWD employs a separate rear-mounted electric motor to power the rear wheels upon requirement instead of using a driveshaft and transfer case to the rear wheels.
